| While this offseason was not as busy as last the Packers did sign 3 guys to relatively inexpensive contracts all at positions of need: Christian Kirksey, Rick Wagner and Devin Funchess. No they do not blow my skirt up, but they are strategic signings that will be of value for the Packers in 202o, assuming there is a 2020.
Kirksey is a tackling machine similar to Martinez, but with much more thump in the run game. Wagner is a steady RT to replace Bulaga in the short term making the need to draft a RT of the future significant in the upcoming draft. Funchess, an intriguing guy, because his talent has thus far not matched up with his production and he has had issues staying healthy, if he can overcome the injury bug he will be a welsome addition to the WR corps.

| With big contracts coming due to key parts of the team, it was not surprising that Gutey was less active in FA this off-season. Gutey's MO seems to be going FA and picking up the same position in the draft to groom his pick for year 2 or 3 in their development. In addition, the 3 FA were all cut so the Pack will not get "nicked" for obtaining extra picks in the compensatory pick lottery.
I'm not too thrilled by Funchess, but we will see what he can do with AR. Of course, any wideout is an upgrade over most of the current receivers.

| Funchess can be an adequate to good possession receiver if he can remain healthy. He doesn't blow my skirt up, but he can help the team take some pressure off of Adams inside and allow him to work more in ope field situations where he excels.
Gutey, like his predecessor has shown he does not want to lose draft picks due to the badly in need of an upgrade, compensatory pick formula which I totally respect. We do have some big contracts (Bakhtiari foremost among them) coming due and he has to make sure he has room to sign him/them.

In addition, you have Kenny Clark, Aaron Jones, Lindsay, and King. That's five starters with cash for probably just three players.....probably Bakhtiari, Clark, and Jones; which makes a draft pick for an OL and CB on the shopping list.
