Ahhhhhhhh wish lists, I used to tell my kids if wishes were fishes then the world woudl be an ocean.

Anyway, I have a few wishes, speed from the OLB Position in the form of Zack Brown and Bruce Irvin. A DE that can both hold the point of attack and give some rush from the position in the form of Shea McLellin, Jared Crick, Courtney Upshaw or Chandler Jones. C in the form of Blake, Brewster or Saulsberry. Speed, speed, speed in the form of LaMichael James, Chris Rainey, Irvin, Brown etc.. A future back up QB in the form of Moore (sorry for putting Clemens in the other post been doing that all spring), Wilson, Lindley or Keenum. Depth on the ol in the form of Looney, Datko, Stephenson or Nate Potter at tackle or Zeitler, Lucas Nix, Desmond Wynn or Tony Bergstrom at G.

With the reported release of Nick Collins today saftey is an evebn bigger priority than it was already going to be and I projecxt the Packers to draft two and would like to see that happen. If not those two then hows about a trade up inh the first for Barron or the late first early second for Harrison Smith. There are several Safety prospects I believe will be quality NFL Safeties like Sean Richardson and Whitley from Va. Tech. CB is a remains need like pretty much the entire D so the guys I have in my mock are among the guys I would not mind seein in Green and Gold this season, Trumaine Johnson from Montana who could be a tweener which bothers me some, but he is so athletic I can overlook it, Chase Minnifield (hell of a pedigree), Judie who I have seen projected to GB in the 3rd in many mocks, Donnie Fletcher from BC and a real dark horse for the late rounds small school guy Justin Bethel.

I could go on, but I am sure you guys are bored as hell if you even made it this far.

I love the DRAFT!

I'm with you on Hightower, lutzz. I know I've been on McClellin and Worthy for the most part, but would love to see Hightower somehow there for the Pack. I'm starting to think he could be a monster if Capers and Greene got their hands on him.
But, as Serious mentions, Barron may now also be a huge priority for the Pack to somehow get. I still like Brandon Taylor later, though. Hardin would do as well IMO.
TT and crew really need to be on their game this year.
Welcome back, again, Grandpa. Good to hear all is well!

Thanks Denver.

I am with you both on Hightower, love tgh eguy, but he is not a player at a position the Packers need as a MLB. He can play and if you ask me is a future Pro Bowler, but the need isn't there ahead of other needs. Love the player though.

Welcome back WSS. I wish you had been posting all along as it is hard to keep up with you now. I think Hightower plays OLB for the Pack. He has the build and athletic ability for the position. More than Ingram for sure.

I don't think TT will go up in the first so I don't see Barron. I think there will be better guys than Smith available at 28 so I think his first of probably 2 cracks at safety comes in the 3rd, where I could see Hardin going. . There are a number of lower round safeties on my wish list. I have been high on Bethel for a while. I think he will go one big school, one small.

"Trumaine Johnson from Montana who could be a tweener which bothers me some, but he is so athletic I can overlook it"

The problem with Johnson is that he is hard to coach, compared by many to Joey Thomas. Talented good sized guy but so was Thomas. I can't see TT taking him.

Sorry lutzz sometimes life gets in the way.

TT might move up in the first he has done it before for the right player and if Barron slips a little it is possible though unlikely.

I'm just not sure Hightower is good enough laterally and in coverage to play OLB in Dom's scheme.

I had not heard that about Johnson at all. Maybe those comparisons are jus tbecause they played at the same school? Not sure, but I'd have no problem with him being a Packer.

The Johnson/Thomas comparisons do beg the question on how much character is an issue with the team. I am of the belief that this team has plenty of good solid leaders that if guys step out of line the players will handle it among themselves so if there are questions about him I think it can be handled in the locker room.

I know, just teasing.

Is safety a position worth trading up for?

If he isn't than Upshaw surely isn't. Hightower was known for his athleticism before the knee injury. I wasn't impressed by his agility at the combine though.

I heard this early in the year. I don't think it's just the school. Otherwise I'd be all over him as a safety conversion.

In my experience, it only takes one high maintenance guy to ruin ev en the most well functioning organization. The history for these guys is that they are not worth the trouble even if they become good players like Moss or Shockey or Owens.

Is safety a position worth trading up for? It is this year if the player is, which Barron is IMHO.

At ILB Hightower was an athletic marvel, at OLB he is a different player whose skill set imho is not ideally suited for that position in the 34 scheme.

ItI'm certainly curious to see how this guy turns out because I love his size and athleticism and versatility.

McGinn just came out with the db article:

7. TRUMAINE JOHNSON Montana 6-2 202 4.55 2
Tallest CB on the board. "He matches up with a lot of these receivers of today," one scout said. "He's got a lot of skill. There's a lot of people who don't like him because of his personality. He's just lower division." Four-year starter out of Stockton, Calif. "He had a lot of off-the-field problems," another scout said. "Didn't fit in Missoula. Not real bright (Wonderlic of 11). Doesn't process things very well." In October, he was arrested for obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and was tasered. "He's on the edge," a third scout said. "This is the first year he's ever been coached. DB coach. He's got a big ceiling. Probably second round." Finished with 15 picks and 35 PBUs.

Ohhhh shit, an 11? Ouch, thats the kind of thign that scares teh shit ou tof me. I took it so I could know what I am talking about when I see the score. It is not difficult to get to about 24-25. an 11 means you either really are not smart or you really don't care. I also trust McGinn at least as far as his information goes.

I'm not much on tracking the draft, but this guy does NOT sound like he's got the character traits that TT wants to bring to GB.

I sort of like Johnson. Nick Collins only scored a 14 on the Wonderlic, and 11 is almost triple what Claiborne supposedly scored. Missoula Montana is a spectacular part of the country, but it's not hard to understand how an urban kid could have some problems there. Not a TT kind of guy.

Do you think this team has the leadership needed to take youngsters with some off the field issues, take them under a wing and develop them both as players and as people? I tend to think that guys, young and old like Woodson, Driver, Rodgers, Cobb, Bishop, Hawk can and will do that with anyone who comes in with possible character issues.

TT is big on character as he shoudl be, as we fans are as well and should be, but if the guy sincerely wants to be great there is no ppace better than Green Bay for him to come to.

That said, the 11 scares the crap out of me.

Re: Hightower - Would he have some limitations at OLB? More than likely. I'm just becoming convinced he could be the kind of guy you just put out there and let him wreak havoc. I would certainly be happy with McClellin, though. Kind of souring a bit on Worthy (I know, better late than never) thinking that his anticipating the snap that made him such a freak at Mich St. might not work as well in the pro's.

Re: Joey Thomas, I mean Trumaine Johnson, think I'll pass. Now, if the Pack still had Ahmad Carroll and he needed a good hallway butt-kicking I might reconsider.

Agree on Upshaw and there are defrinite concerns about his coverage skills or if he has the tools to perform them at an acceptable level. I believe he has the tools to do the job well enough to get by, maybe not great, but his greatness is in pursuit and pash rushing wo I think we can live with it. As much as we all LOVE CMIII he is not great in coverage either, but good enough.

I trust you guys on Johnson and the 11 scares me enough to drop him lower on my board just not totally off it.

Razz I don't even think the Packer brass within the War Room with TT even knows what goes on inside TT's noggin until he is set on his "final answer"!

Agreed.....no question there. It would be fun to sit in the Packer War Room to see him in action. This I can say....TT would be a good poker player because you would never get a read on him.
